Celebrate Chinese New Year!

Celebrate Chinese New Year!

Chinese New Year provides many cross-curricular opportunities for students to learn about Chinese culture. Below, you’ll find links to crafts and lesson plans to help you celebrate. We have also included a printable color-by-number Chinese lantern. Instruct students to solve the subtraction equations near the bottom of the page and color the drawing by using the difference that corresponds with each color. (For example, 9 – 8 = 1 , and 1 is black, so all the spaces with a 1 should be colored black.) Once students have completed the math and done the coloring, use the lanterns to decorate for your celebration!

Simple Solutions Celebrates Pi Day!

It is almost here—March 14!  The day when all math geeks (and friends of Einstein) unite.  To celebrate this wonderful day we have put together a fun-filled lab full of hands-on activities to get your students excited about circles. Your students will see pi form before their eyes as they create a paper chain with its digits.  The classroom walls will be polka dotted with circles labeled with area and circumference.  Lastly, your funny bone will be tickled when your students display funny jokes about their favorite number.  We promise you, after this day, your students will never look at a circle the same way again.
