PTAs Trying to Prevent Summer Learning Loss

Summer Learning Loss Prevention!

summer learning

Last night I did something I have never done before.  I spoke at my children’s school PTA meeting.  I wanted to tell them about the wonderful Summer Solutions program we have here at Bright Ideas Press. I am not much of a “sales” person.  I am a teacher.  Although I would like the school to use Summer Solutions, my objective was to just let the school know that this program not only existed, but is something that would benefit all the kids at this elementary school.

To say I was nervous was an understatement.  I was speaking in front of my friends, my sister, some teachers and even *gulp* the principal!  Once I started the teacher in me took over.  I was able to confidently talk about how quickly summer learning loss happens.  I was able to show how the students at their school would be able to prevent this loss by only working minutes a day.  As the parents paged through the books, they were able to see how each lesson has a wide variety of problems, so every day their child would consistently review what they have learned the previous year.  They were happy to see the Help Pages in the back (along with the answers) so if their child came across a problem that they did not understand, they would be able to get the help needed in an easy-to-understand way.  Not to mention that each lesson takes only a few minutes to complete, so the kids’ busy summer schedules would definitely allow time for it!

I am happy to say that all the feedback I have received has been positive.  Hopefully in the next few weeks, the school will get on board with Summer Solutions.  It is a wonderful service to the students of their school.  By organizing this through the PTA, parents will help prevent summer learning loss, earn money back for each book sold, and avoid paying shipping costs.

I have no plans on moving over to the sales team here at Bright Ideas Press.  I am very happy writing math questions.  But when I know the solution to a problem, it is hard for me not to shout it from the roof tops.  Thank you for letting me tell you how wonderful Summer Solutions really is!
